a Microchip is not a gps

It is not a GPS tracker that can find missing pets. Most GPS devices require a monthly cellular fee and battery charging on a weekly basis. Microchips are for owner identification purposes only. A dog owner is only identified by microchip when someone scans your missing pet with the proper scanning device. This can typically be done by an animal control officer or vet. Always update your pet's chip information online with your current location and contact information. This way, if a well meaning person finds your pet and brings them to be scanned, you information will be associated with the chip number, improving your chances of being notified.
